On October 7th, 2013, Wauwatosa West hosted Varsity girl’s tennis subsectionals.

Nine area schools competed Monday for placements in the sectionals. Many of the teams competing claimed to be having great seasons, although some weren’t exactly where they’d like to be.

Elena Baltrusaitis, senior at Pius XI, claims that although Pius XI is not in the best position, “[We’re] having lots of fun, as well as an excellent season.”

The players don’t seem to mind that their team isn’t on top; they’re just having fun being able to play the sport they enjoy.

According to the general consensus of the teams at the subsectionals, Homestead was the team to beat.

“Homestead is the toughest team and is defending four state championships,” said Coach Mark Picard, Wauwatosa West’s JV coach. “They have a very high quality players that are able to take private lessons.”

According to some players, though Homestead took the cake for best team at the subsectionals, within the Woodland conference, West may be tough to beat as well.

“Both varsity and junior varsity have had a successful season and have met all of their goals,” said Picard, “The girls have been practicing very hard throughout the season and now it’s finally paying off.”
